BRIDPORT Under-11s fell victim to a bitterly cold north-easterly wind which took its toll on the young side as they played back-to-back fixtures.

The first result was an encouraging 3-1 victory over Poole with tries being scored by captain Abi Alner, player of the day Daniel James and Henry Everitt.

Bridport’s second game was where the cold played its part as Sherborne put eight tries past them. It could have been more if it wasn’t for the defensive performance of Charlie Brake and a notable last-ditch tackle from Barney Johnson.

The score could have been noticeably different on another day and the experience will no doubt improve the young side.

SHERBORNE 4 BRIDPORT 12

BRIDPORT’S recent cohesion in both backs and forwards was shown to full extent against Sherborne.

Away from home, within 15 minutes, Bridport were four tries ahead by winning ball after ball in the loose and feeding it quickly to players in the open with Oliver Hansford-Harvey, Tom Craven, Toby Pattemore and Inigo Boyle all crossing the line.

Pattemore and Craven scored again, before Sherborne’s squad number 18 waltzed through ineffective Bridport tackles to score a fine try. George Found and Toby Gale scored superb individual tries, and a drive over by Will Newton took the half-time score to 9-1.

To make a fairer contest, four Sherborne players were swapped with four of Bridport’s finest, and the second half became a real contest.

Ernest Chaney, and Inigo Boyle, both in Sherborne shirts, joined the number 18 to score three times, but Bridport responded with tries by Newton, Found, and Craven to give a final score of 12-4 to the Blues.
