HAMWORTHY UTD RES 2
BRIDPORT Reserves’ manager Shaun Annetts admitted he felt gutted after his side conceded a last-gasp equaliser to draw 2-2 with Hamworthy United Reserves in the Dorset Premier League at St Mary’s Field.
Goals from Ali Kamara – called up from the third team – and Josh Hunter in the second half helped the Bees go ahead after Hamworthy had struck through Sam Lench after 30 minutes.
However, as they looked to grind out the victory, up popped Billy Walker to steal a point for his side.
Speaking afterwards, Annetts said: “Most people would think that we should have won that game.
“We lost to them 5-0 a few weeks ago and I recognised three or four of the players. It wasn’t the same team and they were are at our level.
“It feels like a loss but we take a lot of positives from the performance.
“The players are disappointed and they need to take a lot of credit for their display. With the chances they created, I think we deserved all three points.”
The hosts got off to a great start with Kamara at the heart of it. With the thirds without a game, the striker was drafted in to Annetts’ squad and he didn’t disappoint, causing problems for the away side’s defence.
He struck up a great partnership with Hunter and the Bees struck the woodwork twice in the opening exchanges.
The home side also had an effort cleared off the line as they battered their opponents but, it was the visitors who broke the deadlock from the spot.
Nathan Storey brought down an attacker inside the box, giving the referee no option but to award a penalty. Lench stepped up and converted to give his side an undeserved lead – on the balance of play.
The Bees continued to pepper their opponents in the second half and they finally broke through.
Hunter played in Kamara and he slotted past the keeper with aplomb.
With 10 minutes to go, Hunter headed in from a cross to give the home side a well-deserved lead and the Bees tried to stay firm and hold out for a much-need win.
However, their hearts were broken just before the final whistle.
A free-kick from the right was met first by Walker, who headed past Keiran Park to rescue a point for his side.
Up next for the Bees, as they look for their first league win in eight games, is a trip to Cranborne, who were the last team they beat back in September.
Bees: Park, Davy (Handyside), Storey, Peart, Pearson, Hannam, Weedon (Mulhall), Hull, Hunter, Kamara (Kurzman)
