BEES’ chief Adam Fricker expressed his well wishes to talented teenager Tom Blair with new club Dorchester and is hopeful he can take his opportunity at the Avenue.

The former Bridport youngster made his debut for the Magpies’ first-team against Leamington on Saturday, having switched between the clubs last week.

And, while he believes Blair would have been better off staying with the Bees in the short term, Fricker is hopeful the winger becomes a county town hit.

“I have spoken to Tom a few times since he’s left and wished him all the best,” Fricker, whose side travel to Odd Down (Bath) in the Les Phillips Cup on Saturday (3pm) said.

“I just hope he keeps getting his chance in the first team because that’s where he needs to be. I just hope he doesn’t end up playing in their reserves.

“I still believe he would have been better staying with us for another season but, if he gets the opportunity and takes it with both hands, then good luck to him. I really do hope he does.”

He added: “We have held his registration and I have spoken to him about whether he would be prepared to help us out. He has obviously said yes but we need to see what happens from his perspective.

“I hope he doesn’t (help Bridport out) because that means he will be playing regularly for their first-team.”

Asked about the range of opportunity for young players in his side, Dorchester boss Mark Jermyn said: “We try to work with the ethos that whoever is playing well, plays. It’s as simple as that.

“Because we aren’t heavily worried about finances and we haven’t got any big hitters so to speak, if somebody drops to the bench I don’t have the chairman bearing down on me saying ‘why have you got a £400 player sat on the bench and you are playing someone who is £20’.

“We haven’t got any egos in our dressing room, if we think people are working hard enough they will get their opportunity to play.”
