BRIDPORT EVOLUTION 64 WEYMOUTH RAIDERS 70

BRIDPORT hosted their first game of the season to start the campaign to put the club back on the map.

The home team looked a little nervous when the game tipped off and found themselves falling behind Weymouth’s confident team, who were making light work of breaking down Bridport’s defence, taking the first quarter 15-12.

In the second period, Bridport seemed to find their game and started creating good opportunities but struggled to hit the target.

This built up a lot of frustration causing two Evolution players to be handed technical fouls for unsportsmanlike actions.

Weymouth used this to their advantage still controlling the game and kept the lead finishing the half 35-26.

Bridport knew what they had to do in the third quarter and came out fighting with confidence looking to pull back the points.

With Eric Robertshaw and Craig Sorrell stepping up and finding space to shoot, the game started to turn in the home side’s favour going into the last quarter only down by 10.

Bridport gave it everything they had in the final minutes but unfortunately it was too little, too late as they finished losing by six points.

Bridport: Craig Sorrell 22, Eric Robertshaw 19, Dan Park 13, Alex Reid 4, Neil Gray 2, Marcin Manka 2, Ross Hughes 2, Jack Trivett, Tom White.

NORTH DEVON 71

BRIDPORT EVOLUTION 67

BRIDPORT travelled to South Molten to play North Devon.

With a depleted squad of seven due to injuries and illnesses, Bridport looked to have a tough game ahead of them.

As the game got under way both teams were giving it everything and matching each other up and down the court but it was the away team who took a 35-30 lead at half-time.

It was the third quarter that Evolution maintained composure and with a few set-piece offences working well they did everything they could to hold the lead, going into the final quarter 51-53 to the visitors.

Unfortunately fatigue set in and North Devon started to edge ahead and held on to the lead until the final whistle.

Bridport: Craig Sorrell 25, Eric Robertshaw 17, Jack Trivett 7, Tom Glover 6, Dan Park 5, Neil Gray 4, Alex Reid 3.

n Bridport host title contenders Exmouth Jesters on Monday in the Beaminster Community Sports Hall at 7pm.
