ADAM Fricker revealed that five Chard Town players have made the move with him to St Mary’s Field as he gears up for his first season in charge of Bridport.

Fricker, who took charge of the Bees back in May, has been putting 55 players – across all three squads – through their paces as he moulds his squad for their first pre-season game this weekend.

Five of them were Chard players, but they have now put pen to paper for Bridport.

These players are Jason Hutchins, Andy Martin, George Chlopecki, Ed Butcher and Luke Woodland.

Mark Salter is the only existing Bridport player to have signed a new deal while Ryan Hayter, Matt Condliffe and Tom Blair are in talks over their future with Fricker.

Speaking about his squad, Fricker said: “We knew we had to bring in players because the squad dwindled towards the end of the season.

“Of those that stayed, four or five had moved on so we knew we had to strengthen,

“Five or six of the lads from Chard have put pen to paper and we’re hoping to get the majority signed up before Saturday’s game.

“I think all of them can make a real impact. Jason (Hutchins) is a real calming influence in goal, and I hope that helps because I know Bridport had a few issues with their goalkeepers last year.

“Ed and George have great athleticism but they have never played at this level.

“Once they are adjusted I think they can fire for us.”

“We’ll look to add a couple if needed but we are happy with the squad so far.”

It’s been a busy first week at St Mary’s Field for the new boss but he has enjoyed being part of a new-look Bees.

“It’s been really good,” he explained. “It was great to see so many committee members and fans down at the ground last week just seeing what is going on.

“The boys worked really hard in their first week back and the numbers have been good throughout.

“There is a real buzz around the place and, from my point of view, everyone has been really supportive.

“The set-up is fantastic, the pitch is looking great and we just want to get going.

“We want the pre-season games to start so we can see where we are and what hard work needs to be done.”
