LONGWELL GREEN SPORTS 1

BRIDPORT 1

MARK Salter struck late from the penalty spot as Bridport grabbed a point at Longwell Green Sports.

Despite chances falling for Bridport’s Salter, Tom Blair and Ryan Dovell, hosts Longwell Green opened the scoring on 36 minutes.

A cross was charged down and Sports were allowed to break quickly in a three-on-three situation, and made no mistake in finding the net.

But chances kept coming for the Bees and they also saw a huge shout for a penalty waved away after what the visitors felt was a hand ball in the hosts’ box. Dovell also had an effort cleared off the line.

As they kept probing, Bridport eventually got their reward. Shaun Stewart turned away from his defender and saw his cross blocked by an adjudged raised arm and, on this occasion, the referee awarded a spot-kick.

Up stepped Salter, who made no mistake in despatching from 12 yards to level things up two minutes from time.

“He put it straight in the top basket, the keeper went the wrong way and it was a class, cool finish,” said Carter about Salter’s penalty.

He added: “I was very pleased with the reaction I got from the boys. To be fair, we threw the kitchen sink at them in the second half.

“We thought we were going to come away with nothing but we got the penalty and really we should have come away with three points.”
