THERE was a low turnout of 34 for Bridport & West Dorset Golf Club's men’s competition, despite the fine weather, writes Peter Crowter.

The competition was the Atherton Cup, a flag greensome where partners are drawn, one low and one high handicap player in each team.

The first three teams all got past the 18th green before using up their allotted strokes and it was a very close finish.

The winners were Peter Marshall (9) and Paddy McMaster (21) who finished one foot from the 19th hole.

Second were Mike Vincent (12) and Andy Webb (21) who finished one yard from the 19th.

Finishing on the edge of the 19th green were third-placed Graham Hunt (6) and Charles Summers (26).

Veterans' Section

THE Thursday competition was the annual event to raise money for the Prostate Cancer charity.

Forty-nine men turned out for this Stableford and this was the first veterans' 18-hole competition for some months due to the course improvements.

Top score of the day came from Division Two where winner John Pitchford scored 36 points with runner-up Mick Kelson one point behind.

One point behind again was the winner of Division One Alan Harvey with 34 points who nudged Jimmy Gbadebo into second place after countback.

RESULTS

Division One: 1 (acb) Alan Harvey (17) 34 points, 2 Jimmy Gbadebo (12) 34, 3 Bob Harding (16) 33, 4 Malcolm Noble (17) 31.
