COLFOX School's Year Seven basketball team have been crowned area champions.

There was a great turnout for the competition, with seven schools from the area competing at the Sir John Colfox Academy.

Each team faced each other in a round-robin tournament.

The hosts began their competition with a comfortable win over Wey Valley.

They then went on to beat Budmouth, St Osmund's and Ipaca.

There were some notable performances from the boys in these games, with Theo Vincent Janes, Jake Childs, Finlay Cauldwell, Mannie Wellman and Damian Bernard performing extremely well and dominating the game with some excellent defence and some incisive attacking.

The team were left with two games to play, St Mary's Puddletown and Dorchester Middle School (DMS).

After beating St Mary's, the team had to play DMS (who were also unbeaten to this point).

After a slow start the team got their act together and dominated the final game.

Some excellent rebounding allowed Colfox to gain possession and from this point they were able to score the points that allowed the Year Sevens to be crowned area champions.

Meanwhile, Colfox's Year Eight eam participated in the Sainsbury’s School games tournament, which also held at the academy.

Six schools from around the area were all competing for the title, and during the tournament there was some play of a really high standard.

Colfox started off by winning their opening games against Wey Valley and Budmouth, with some excellent play by the team.

The next two games were hard-fought wins against DMS and St Mary’s Puddletown, leaving Colfox in the final to face St Osmund’s – who had also gone unbeaten throughout the tournament.

St Osmund's got off to a quick start and moved into a comfortable lead.

Through some hard work and good play, Colfox were able to claw ourselves back into the game and get to within six points of them.

However, despite all our efforts and good play, Colfox were unable to stop the Dorchester school from completing their win.

However, a second-placed finish in the whole of west Dorset is something the Year Eight students should be proud of.
