BRIDPORT will make their second trip of the season to Shepton Mallet this Saturday after Western League officials agreed to reverse the fixture.

The match was due to take place at St Mary’s Field but the pitch at the Bees’ home ground has not coped well with the recent rain.

Only one fixture involving either Trevor Senior’s first XI or Shaun Annetts’ reserves has taken place there since the turn of the year.

With that in mind, and the fact Bridport and Shepton Mallet have not played each other in the league this term, it was decided to see if this weekend’s clash could be switched.

The sides met in Somerset in the Les Phillips Cup last November but Saturday will be their first encounter of the campaign in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division.

If Shepton Mallet’s Playing Fields ground survives any heavy rainfall over the next 48 hours then it will be just the second outing for Bridport in 2016.

Other than a defeat to Odd Down, the Bees have seen games against Hallen, Longwell Green Sports, Clevedon and Brislington called off.

With no fixture for the reserves, Senior would be in a very strong position in terms of selection should the trip to Somerset go ahead. Warren Byerley (ankle) is the only doubt.

Commenting on the postponements, Senior said: “We’ve just got to get on with it. We’ll have to cram half a season into three months but we are not the only ones in this situation.

“I think our squad is big enough to be able to deal with it, and we’ve got some good youngsters and reserves who can step up if needed.”
