CONDITIONS were reasonable for the Bridport & West Dorset Golf Club men’s Sunday competition, a three-man Stableford off full handicap with the best two scores to count.

This was a 16-hole competition due to the changes taking place at the moment to the cliff path down to the sixth hole.

The winners were Mike Savage (9), Robin Ormsby (19) and Paddy McMaster (21) with 73 points.

In second place were Mike Thompson (13), Derek Christison (23) and Jon Legg-Bagg (13) with 70 points.

Taking third place were Grant Gerrard (14), Phil Lathey (17) and Mike Halford (25) with 68 points.

On Wednesday, there was a mixed 16-hole Stableford with 14 players taking part.

Stuart Gay (22) and Steve Cleal (17) both carded 29 points, with Gay winning after countback.

Bryn Dare (15) was third after countback with 28 points.

Veterans’ Section

THE veterans held their AGM on Thursday so the competition that preceded it was shortened to a 14-hole Stableford.

The late starters got a soaking followed by a more welcome one in the showers before they changed for the AGM.

Despite the uncomfortable conditions, Howard Bonfield in Division One led the field with a very good score of 29 points.

Malcolm Peach topped Division Two with 24 points.

RESULTS

Division One: 1 Howard Bonfield (16) 29 points, 2 Roy Gill (13) 27, 3 Jimmy Gbadebo (13) 26, 4 (acb) Keith Brown (13) 25.

Division Two: 1 Malcolm Peach (23) 24 points, 2 John Harper (24) 23, 3 John Pitchford (23) 22, 4 (acb) Dave Buckland (21) 20.

Thirteen seems to have been the lucky handicap in Division One and 23 in Division Two.

During the AGM that followed the season’s prize-winners were presented with their trophies.

Ladies’ Section

THE Legg Bowl county competition was played against Weymouth at home.

Two silver players and two bronze players compete and the results are added together.

Di Loving and Di Harris were the silver players and Pat Balwin and Viv Gill were the bronze for the hosts.

The combined total eventually saw a win for Bridport by six shots.

Tuesday was dank and misty but the ladies strode forth to play a game called Bisque.

Some ladies returned to the dry clubhouse early but many donned their waterproofs and gamely played on.

The winner with -4 was Lyn Hargrave followed by Helen Campbell (-3).

Third on countback was Liz Thompson (-2), then Viv Gill (-2), and the last of the prize winners was Sue Kelson (-1).
