CHAIRMAN Adrian Scadding does not see why a top-eight finish should be out of Bridport’s reach this season.

Scadding admits to having mixed feelings over the Bees’ start to the new campaign, with the club currently sitting 18th out of the 21 sides in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division.

Bridport have played at least one game less than everyone else and are the only team so far to beat early leaders Buckland Athletic.

“We started alright,” he said. “We’ve had quite a few injuries which have hampered us a little bit.

“Luckily we’ve been able to use players from the reserves like Tristan Gale, so that has been very good.

“We lost a few players in the summer but gained a few such as Jamie Beasley.

“The trouble is we are conceding quite a few goals, particularly late in the game, and we should have beaten Sherborne on Saturday.”

He went on to add: “I want us to finish in the top eight and I see no reason why we shouldn’t be able to do that.

“If things perk up a little bit I think we can do well this season.

“I’ve noticed we play better against the better teams, but when we are in front we sometimes switch off.”

Off the pitch, Scadding is delighted with how the club is running, as The Beehive continues to be a popular venue for functions.

Bridport were playing their FA Cup preliminary round replay against Sherborne Town last night.
