FORMER Lyme Regis star Sophie Keech is now one step away from securing a place at this year’s Ricoh Women’s British Open.

Keech was the top amateur and finished tied fourth overall in the qualifier hosted by The Berkshire Golf Club.

Playing on the course where she has won the Astor Salver for the past two years, Keech teed off alongside former England team-mate Sarah-Jane Boyd and Germany’s Greta Voelker.

Keech began with a par, birdied the third, bogeyed the fourth and birdied the ninth – she hit the pin with her approach shot and finished eight foot from the flag.

On the back nine she found eight out of nine greens in regulation and went on to complete a two-under-par round of 70.

The Dorset youngster now travels to the final qualifier at Irvine Golf Club next Monday where only 12 players out of 95 will make it into the British Open.
