BRIDPORT and West Dorset Golf Club’s veterans’ Thursday competition was the George Adams Cup and there was a turnout of 57 entrants.

Once again, the conditions determined the outcome, there were no outstanding scores and 11 players came in with no-result on their cards.

The man who took home the silver was Division Two player Dave Boggis.

Boggis has won this cup on two previous occasions and this time he won it with a nett 72, one shot better than Bryan Holmes who took Division One.

RESULTS

Division One: 1 Bryan Holmes 92-19=73, 2 (acb) Richard Fox 92-18=74, 3 Roy Gill 88-14=74, 4 David Buckland 95-20=75.

Division Two: 1 Dave Boggis 93-21=72, 2 Gil Roberts 97-23=74, 3 Alex Millar 103-28=75, 4 David Cotgrove 103-27=76.

Two match results were — Canford School away, Bridport lost 4-2. Ashley Wood at home was won by Bridport 4-2.

Men’s Section

THERE was a midweek Stableford on Wednesday with 13 starters.

The top score of the day was 32 points and this was carded by three players.

Winner after countback was Alan Jowett (20) nudging William Davison (21) into the runner-up spot. In third place, after countback, was Andrew Hartley with the same score.

There were 40 starters for the men’s Sunday Stableford.

The best score of the day and the only one in the 40s came from Division One where Gavin Gay who carded 40 points was three points clear of runner-up Julian Green with 37.

Division Three provided the second best score of the day and the leader there was Chris Norsworthy with 39 points.

Dave Travers topped Division Two, scoring 37 points.

Division Two: 1 Dave Travers (14) 37, 2 David Corp (15) 36, 3 (acb) Grant Gerrard (13) 35.

Division Three: 1 Chris Norsworthy (20) 39, 2 Charles Summers (28) 37, 3 Tony Burwood (24) 36.

Ladies’ Section

SATURDAY saw a qualifying Stableford, writes Di Neal.

Sara Dunn triumphed with 35 points with Janie Dowling (23pts) second. Third was Carole Brown (22pts). Dunn had her handicap reduced by one shot.

Tuesday was the day of the annual captain, secretary and treasurer’s needle match. The winners were Jan Clark’s Secretary’s team. The Beales match, played at Bulbury Woods, resulted in a home win.
