BRIDPORT teenager Jack Turner is set to represent Great Britain in Portugal this summer just a few months after taking part in his first biathle competition.

The 14-year-old Colfox School pupil will be competing for his country at the Biathle World Tour event in Setubal on July 18.

Mum Sarah, dad Blair and younger brother Finlay are going to be cheering on the youngster in Portugal, where Turner’s race includes a 1km run, a 200m swim in open water, and another 1km run.

“It’s great,” said his mum. “He has got his GB tri-suit and he is very excited about it.

“We are really proud of him and he puts a lot of effort into all his sport.

“He only got into biathle in April and did it as part of his Duke of Edinburgh.

“He was already swimming and running, and it was suggested to him by one of his coaches that he combined them.

“Jack only took part in his first competition at Leweston in April but we had no idea it was a qualifying race for Portugal.

“We knew it was possible that he could qualify at Millfield and he got the time he needed.”

Turner, who trains with Bridport Barracudas, Dorset Pentathletes and Wessex Wizards, had previously shown his potential in March when he won the junior race at the Yeovil Aquathlon.
