SHEPTON MALLET 2

BRIDPORT 0

BRIDPORT went down to a third successive defeat at Shepton Mallet on Saturday but boss Trevor Senior took heart from his side’s performance.

The hosts won the Toolstation Western League Premier Division contest with a goal in each half.

Tyson Pollard gave the home side the lead before Jordan Townsley wrapped up the three points.

But Bridport created chances throughout the match and Senior felt the visitors should have had a penalty in the second period when Adam Symes appeared to be fouled in the box.

Reflecting on the fixture, Senior said: “We played well and I couldn’t fault any of the lads for their effort.

“We took the game to them and although we lost we can take comfort in the way we played.

“But I think we are all ready for a break now so we will regroup and go again next season.”

Speaking about Saturday’s match in more detail, Senior added: “They scored midway through the first half and Ashley Weeks was disappointed because the ball went under his arms.

“Just before half-time Matt Condliffe cut in from the right and went past two defenders but his shot was blocked.

“We felt we were still in the game at the break and Ash hadn’t had that many saves to make in the first half.

“They scored early in the second half but we kept going and kept getting men into attacking positions.

“Matt Morley caused them problems down the left and Dan Wise delivered some great crosses from the right.

“Warren Byerley had a chance to equalise but he couldn’t quite force the ball over the line from one of Matt’s crosses.

“I thought we had a good shout for a penalty when one of their lads went in on Adam Symes in the penalty area.

“But there were a couple of players fighting for the ball and maybe the referee didn’t have a good view of it.

“As we were pushing forward they had chances on the break and Chris Clarke hacked the ball off the line at one point.”
