TREVOR Senior felt his Bridport side had gained a point rather than squandered all three as they battled out a hard-fought stalemate with the Armadillos at St Mary’s Field.

Experienced frontman Warren Byerley came close for the Bees midway through the first half when his acrobatic overhead kick from inside the area fizzed over the top.

Sean Stewart also spurned an opportunity from point-blank range.

Bees’ keeper Ashley Weeks was then called into action to make a good reaction save, and Hallen’s Oliver Butler was unlucky not to win it for the visitors late on as he manoeuvred room to pull the trigger, only to see his effort rattle the bar.

Senior told Echosport: “I think it was a point gained for both teams, there were no bookings, and it was a competitive game played in the right spirit.

“Both sides competed well, there weren’t loads of chances. We had two or three in the first half, one of which we should have done better with.

“I thought that both teams played some decent football at times and I’m happy to have kept a clean sheet.

“They were 100 per cent better than when we played them away. They have a new manager and were a different proposition.”

With the Bees failing to add to their 31 league goals this term they remain one of the division’s lowest scorers, but the St Mary’s Field boss is not overly concerned by that statistic.

He added: “I looked at the table and I think there are only three or four teams that have scored fewer goals than us. We need to put that right and we obviously didn’t in this game but we will try again next week.

“The goals against column isn’t looking too bad though, we have defended well and it’s not as if we haven’t created chances over the season, we just haven’t taken a high percentage of them.”
