BRIDPORT 2 STREET 5

BRIDPORT will go into the New Year having suffered back-to-back league defeats after they came unstuck against Street at St Mary’s Field.

A first-half strike from Matt Morley and a late consolation for youngster Rhys Hayter were by no means enough to topple the Somerset outfit, who made their journey home with all three points having dented the Bees’ festive campaign further.

“We were very poor,” Bridport manager Trevor Senior told Echosport. “It was disappointing really, they were sharper than us again.

“The pitch was heavy and we gifted them the first two goals.”

After Chris Senior’s misplaced back pass had unfortunately found his own net, Thomas Hill made it 2-0 to the visitors on 15 minutes.

Morley then finished well from 25 yards out, halving the deficit for the Bees during the opening period, but the hosts conceded twice more before the break.

Dale Hunt and Harry Baker provided a hammer blow to Bridport’s hopes.

“At 4-1 you are really up against it,” added Senior, who was certain the visitors’ third goal was offside.

Baker was then on hand once more to make it 5-1 to the away team, but Hayter, who replaced Tom Richardson for the final 10 minutes, got his goal when Shane Evans’ shot clipped his heel and ricocheted into the roof of the net.

To add to a disappointing day for Bridport, they also lost Sean Stewart to an ankle injury during the opening period and Richardson picked up a slight groin problem.

Senior said: “Sean kicked someone’s studs and he is going to be out for a couple of weeks, his ankle is pretty bad.

“We just need to pick ourselves up for next Saturday now.”

The Bees start 2015 at home to Brislington on January 3.
