YOUNGSTER Aiden Cooper from the Matt Fiddes Martial Arts School in Bridport was celebrating silver trophy success at the MF British Championships in Reading.

Club owner and instructor Lucy Fear said: “Aiden was the only student from the Bridport school to enter this year.

“He joined competitors from my Somerset-based school and competed with such courage and honour.”

Cooper entered the highest sparring category for his age group (red stripe and above 10-12yrs) and prepared thoroughly with five-times national sparring champion Ash Herron to build his confidence and speed.

Fear added: “All his hard work paid off by getting through many rounds and coming up against competitors that were a much higher grade.

“He showed immense skill and determination.

“I am so very proud and I know Miss Herron said he was only one point away from winning the gold.

“What an amazing day for himself, his family and the Bridport school.

“Aiden’s silver trophy added to the haul of awards that came home with Team Fear, as we are known.

“A total of six competitors went from the Team Fear camp and every single student came home with a trophy, with one winning two golds.”

The school is currently offering free trial sessions in their junior classes that run every Tuesday (5.30pm) at Sir John Colfox School for 5-12 year-olds.
