THE Three Horseshoes Trophy at West Bay turned out to be the last match of the year, and the fishing ended on a high.

A closely-fought contest was won by Steve Harwood with Steve Fowles coming second.

There were some good fish caught, most notably by junior member Charlie Lawson, 12, who bagged a nice plaice, black bream and a 43lb conger.

After being netted and weighed – the catch was the biggest of the year to date for a club member from shore or boat – it was returned to fight another day.

Saturday Juniors Series THE last two matches of the Saturday Juniors competition, which takes place on the East Pier and West Bay every fortnight, were fished this month.

The Jurassic League starts on November 1 – coinciding with the Juniors v Parents Open – with five more matches to fish before the end of the year.

All friends, family, members and ex-juniors are welcome to attend the Juniors-Parents clash, to be held on the East Pier from noon – 3pm.

This will be followed by a buffet at the Salthouse along with the trophy presentation for the Saturday series.

Fishing on the piers has been slow this year but picked has up in recent months. The best fish by far this year was caught and released by guest junior Adam Thorp.

He landed a specimen golden grey mullet of 1lb 8½ozs and also recorded the highest total weight in a match (948g).
