MORE than 70 men entered Bridport & West Dorset Golf Club's Sunday competition, which was the White Jug, a pairs Stableford off full handicap, with a total of both scores to count.
Conditions were very good, warm and dry with very little wind.
The winners were Steve Crabb (6) and Gary Edwardes (9), scoring 77 points.
Runners-up were the team of Grant Gerrard (18) and Terry Cleal with 74 points, while in third were Gavin Gay (9) and Stuart Gay (23) with 71.
On Saturday, there was a mixed competition, the Good Cup, a foursome Stableford off ½ combined handicap. Lady captain Liz Walker (27) and her partner Mike Savage (8) won the cup with a score of 40 points.
Finishing second on countback were Ruth Donovan (17) and Steve Crabb (6) with 38 points. Third were the husband and wife pair, veterans’ captain Roger Pollock (19) and Sue Pollock (32) also with 38 points.
MEMBERS had an away match versus Windwhistle, so consequently the Thursday competition was a self-entry, single division Stableford and there were 51 entrants.
There was heavy cloud all around the course and a brisk breeze that couldn’t seem to make its mind up which way to blow so conditions were a little tricky.
However, this didn’t seem to affect the scoring to any great degree and, while no one managed 40 points, there were a number of scores in the high 30s.
Chris Roberts was the winner with 38 points, two points clear of runner-up John Laramy. Mike McGrady took third after countback and he achieved a gross eagle on the par five third.
1 Chris Roberts (20) 38 points, 2 John Laramy (23) 37, 3 (acb) Mike McGrady (16) 36, 4 John Sansom (17) 36, 5 Dave Buckland (21) 35.
* Roberts, Laramy and McGrady reveived a one-shot handicap cut.
* The ladies’ invitation day was postponed because of the threat of high winds and torrential rain. The event has been rescheduled for Tuesday, October 7.
