LYME Regis schoolgirl Mollie Hansford, 17, has just returned victorious from competing in Australia as a member of the UK Tetrathlon team.

Hansford, who has competed in this event – comprising pistol shooting, swimming, running and riding – since the age of eight, underwent a rigorous selection process and was the youngest member of the team.

The UK team travelled with other competitors from Ire-land, USA, New Zealand and Australia for a tour of the Coral Coast of Western Aus-tralia, taking part in numerous activities including surfing, sand boarding, kayaking and skydiving.

Returning to Perth for the international competition, Hansford exceeded expectations by scoring well in all four phases – including a maximum 500 score on her second shoot target, and a fast, clear show jumping round to secure the UK’s only maximum score in that phase.

A strong swim and run ensured a fourth place individually for Hansford and a convincing team win for the UK girls.

Hansford, a member of the Cotley Pony Club, Axe Valley Runners, Bridport Barracudas swimming club and The Tunnel target shooting club would like to thank all those who have helped with her busy training schedule and who have so generously supported her with donations towards her trip.

She now heads to the UK Regional competition and National Tetrathlon Champ-ionships later this month before concentrating on Pentathlon over the winter.
