Bridport & West Dorset Golf Club's Men’s Section

MORE than 66 players took the field for the men’s monthly nedal, writes Peter Crowter.

Weather conditions were good but, despite this, 13 came in with no result on their cards, possibly due to straying into the rough.

Equalling the top score of the day with 69 was Steve Crabb in Division One but his gross score of 75 was five better than his closest rival. His front nine 36 was made up of seven pars, one birdie and one bogie.

Marc Harwood led Division Two with a nett 70 and winner in Division Three was Chris Scadding with 69. Division One: 1 Steve Crabb (75-6=69), 2 Phil Winton (80-10=70), 3 (acb) Graham Blunden (80-8=72).

Division Two: 1 Marc Harwood (86-16-70), 2 Ian Thacker (85-14-=71), 3 (acb) Pat Hart (86-14-72).

Division Three: 1 Chris Scadding (91-22=69), 2 Andrew Harrison (91-20=71), 3 Dave Rendell (93-20=73).

Veterans’ Section

WITH some players involved in an inter-club match, the Thursday competition was a self-entry, single division Stableford.

The majority of would-be starters stayed at home but 18 stalwarts teed off and, of those a dozen managed to complete the course despite the rain.

Phil Huggins (A) and Martin Oliver (20) both came in with 33 points with Huggins taking the top spot on countback.

In third place was Bryan Holmes (21) with 32 points.

Ladies’ Section

TWENTY-SEVEN members played in a three-team Bowmaker with two scores to count on each hole, writes Rosemary Shepherd.

A decision was made to cut the competition to a nine-hole because of the wet conditions.

Winners, with 39 points, were Elizabeth Thompson, Jane White and Helen Campbell with Di Harris, Pauline Mackie and Jean Stephens in second place with 36 points.

The Beales League team played a very tight match against the ladies of the Isle of Purbeck GC. The final result was a 5-2 loss.

This could have been very different as two of the matches were conceded on the 18th.

Junior Section

KEIRAN Mulhall led the junior May Medal with an excellent round, scoring 76-8=68. With a not very promising start of two double bogeys, he put that behind him and went on to hole 11 pars and two birdies.

His score earned him a one-shot handicap cut. Ben Carruthers took the runner-up spot with 93-20=73.
