THE men’s Sunday competition was an individual Stableford off full handicap and there were 67 starters, writes Peter Crowter.

Top score of the day was carded by Matt Gale in Division One, his excellent 42 points was three clear of runner-up Toby Hall.

The second best score of the day came from Nathan Dunford who topped Division Three with 40 points.

A slightly more modest total was enough to take the honours in Division Two with Doug Miners on 37 leading after countback. Gale and Dunford both received a one-shot handicap cut. Division One: 1 Matt Gale (10) 42pts, 2 Toby Hall (9) 39pts, 3 Gary Edwardes (8) 37pts.

Division Two: 1 Doug Miners (15) 37pts (acb), 2 Mike Thompson (13) 37pts (acb), 3 Grant Gerrard (18) 36pts.

Division Three: 1 Nathan Dunford (26) 40pts, 2 Richard Parry (19) 37pts, 3 Stuart Gay (22) 34pts (acb).

Veterans’ Section

THE mist cleared early so members were able to start on time for the third round of the Holmes Cup. Of the 48 entrants, only one player managed a sub 70 score and that was Roy Gill in Division One.

With no fewer than nine gross pars on his card, he came in with a net score of 69, two shots better than Keith Brown, who finished as the runner-up after countback.

The leading man in Division Two was Brian Moger with a nett score of 72.

Gill’s handicap was cut by one stroke. Division One: 1 Roy Gill 82-13=69, 2 Keith Brown 84-13=71 (acb), 3 Ed Hanson 86-15=71 (acb), 4 Mike McGrady 88-15=73.

Division Two: 1 Brian Moger 98-26=72, 2 Tony Williams 102-28=74, 3 Mike Conway 103-28-75, 4 Bryan Holmes 97-21=76 (acb).

Ladies’ Section

THIS week’s action began with a home 3½-½ win for Bridport in a friendly against Lyme Regis, writes Rosemary Shepherd.

A qualifying round of the Australian Spoons, a greensomes Stableford competition, was played over Saturday and Tuesday.

The winners were Marion Hur-ley and Julie Woodroffe with 33 points and the runners-up were Sally Woolming-ton and Avril Brown, who posted 31 points.

The ladies then staged a first round match of the Humphrey’s Bowl, a singles scratch competition for a team of three against Yeovil, this resulted in a 2-1 win for Bridport.

And the week ended with the Spring Greensomes match between the ladies and the veterans. The final score was a victory to the veterans by 6½ to 5½.
