SEVENTY-FIVE members turned out for the Sunday competition, which was the National Pro-Am Medal.

The weather was warm and sunny with a little breeze and this resulted in some low scores with eight of the prize-winners carding nett scores in the 60s.

The lowest score of the day came from Ian Thacker and his 64 led Division Two by a clear four shots.

One behind, with 65, was Robin Ormsby, leader of Division Three, with a gross score of 77, which included 13 pars.

Mike Savage took top spot in Division One with a nett 68.

Thacker’s and Ormsby’s handicaps were cut by two shots, Kearley, Scadding and Hunt by one.

Thacker now plays with club professional David Parsons in the regional qualifier at Parkstone Golf Club.

The Thursday veterans' competition was the Prostate Cancer Stableford, an annual event to raise money for the charity.

There was half an hour delay at the start for the 62 entrants due to the foggy conditions but it soon cleared leaving behind a sunny morning with a slight breeze.

Among the eight prize-winners, the top scores were all in Division One where the winner, Dougie Howell’s score of 41 points nudged Brian Fearon into second place by just one point.

The winner of Division Two, after countback, was Gil Roberts with 36 points.

The day’s event, which included a draw where something like 60 bottles of liquid refreshment were on offer, was organised very efficiently and enthusiastically by Colin Clark, aided by his wife Jan and Viv Gill.

The total amount raised for the Prostate Charity from the entry fees, the draw and £50 donated by the ladies was £780.

RESULTS: Division One: 1 Dougie Howell (18) 41 points, 2 Brian Fearon(10) 40, 3 Richard Lomax (14) 38, 4 Keith Mundy (20) 37.

Division Two: 1 (acb) Gil Roberts (23) 36 points, 2 Bill Cain (28) 36, 3 Alex Millar (28) 35, 4 (acb) Tony Udall (23) 34.

For the lady members this week there was no competition but there was a most enjoyable coffee morning and social golf.

The morning was very well attended by members and visitors.

The lady captain would like to thank her committee and all those who contributed to and ran a variety of stalls including plants, books and good quality bric-a-brac.

Thanks to the ladies who were in the clubhouse on veterans and men’s competition days to promote the event.

The proceeds will be shared between the ladies’ section and the lady captain’s charity, the Yeovil Opportunities Group.

Those who chose also to play golf, enjoyed good conditions and a relaxed atmosphere.
