AFTER continuous gales and the New Year’s Day daytime match being cancelled there was at last a window in the weather for West Bay SAC to get their 2014 matches under way.

All anglers landed at least one specimen in the first Thursday night match of the year at Abbotsbury.

RESULT

1 PJ Wheeler 3,730g, 2 Derek Smith 2,915g, 3 Ollie Mears 2,560g.

Heaviest fish: Derek Smith (dogfish 885g).

Most species: Steve Fowles (4 – dogfish, pout, whiting, five-bearded rockling).

Thursday Night Match – Abbotsbury

POOR conditions led to a lot of lost tackle and the fish were hard to find.

RESULT

1 PJ Wheeler 2,985g, 2 Hugh Rathbone 1,450g, 3 Lea Windsor 1,375g.

Heaviest fish: PJ Wheeler (dogfish 700g).

Most species: Simon Bowditch (2).

Christmas Fayre – West Bay

TEN hardy anglers fished the annual Christmas match in awful conditions as the competition was won on the very last cast.

RESULT

1 Steve Fowles 435g, 2 Hugh Rathbone 410g, 3 Paul House 410g.

Heaviest fish: Paul House (pollack 410g).

Most species: Eden Lynham (2).

MEMBERS fished from Abbotsbury to Eype with plenty of fish being caught.

RESULT

1 Ollie Mears 7,785g, 2 Lea Windsor 6,875g, 3 Phil Maggs 5,275g.

Most species: PJ Wheeler (7 – dogfish, poor cod, five-bearded and shore rockling, whiting, pout and pollack).

Heaviest fish: Mark Wickenden (bullhuss 1,680g).

Thursday Night Match – West Bay

HUGH Rathbone found the dogfish on a rough night’s fishing.

RESULT

1 Hugh Rathbone 5,565g, 2 Ollie Mears 4,125g, 3 PJ Wheeler 3,815g.

Heaviest fish: PJ Wheeler (dogfish 1135g).

Most species: Paul House (3 – pollack, pouting and shore rockling).

Thursday Night Match – West Bexington

SIXTEEN members fished on a calm, warm evening when dogfish, whiting and pollack were the main species caught.

RESULT

1 Phil Maggs 5,740g, 2 PJ Wheeler 5,565g, 3 Steve Fowles 5,555g.

Heaviest fish: Simon Bowditch (925g dogfish).

Most species: Gerry Reed (5 – pout, poor cod, whiting, dogfish and pollack).

LYME REGIS

LYME Regis Sea Angling Club is a family-friendly sea fishing organisation.

The club runS competitions and matches throughout the year for both adults and juniors.

These are a great place to learn to fish, as well as get tips and advice from the more experienced anglers.
