BOXING: Home glory for Luke Seale on Bridport boxing show
LUKE Seale was the sole winner from the host club at Bridport ABC’s annual boxing show last weekend.
The five other Bridport fighters competing at Freshwater Holiday Park came up just short on a night when no fewer than 20 bouts took place in all.
Three Bridport members – Robert Zajac, Kyle Sheard and Jess Boyle – made their debuts on the action-packed bill but were on the wrong end of points defeats.
Despite having just one winner at the event, Bridport ABC head coach Alan Slaney was thrilled with how the show went.
“It was a superb night and one I hope the big crowd enjoyed,” he said. “Luke fought first and had a good win on points against Levi Kerry (Willenhall).
“That got things off to a good start and really got the crowd going.
“The other Bridport boxers didn’t manage a win but there were some exciting contests.
“All of the fighters who were making their debut did their best and that’s all you can ask for.”
He may not have been able to perform in the ring due to a cracked rib but Lusian Sherwood was awarded the Brian Richards Memorial Belt for the best Bridport boxer of the last 12 months.
“Lucian has been training very hard and is an up and coming boxer,” added Slaney. “You can’t fault his dedication and commitment.”
Two Weymouth boxers won on the night.
Lewis Chambers earned a majority verdict over Harry Cracknell (Blandford), and Lee Thompson beat Jamie Burt (Tamar) after the latter retired injured in round one.
