BRIDPORT 1 HALLEN 1

A LATE header from Darren Watts salvaged a point for the Bees at St Mary’s Field on Saturday.

The equaliser didn’t look like it was going to come but a moment of brilliance from Dan Wise in the 89th minute set up Watts, much to the relief of Trevor Senior.

The Bridport boss said: “It was a bit like our performance in our previous game.

“We didn’t get going in the first half and kept giving the ball away too much, but having said that they never troubled us either.

“We just didn’t seem to believe in ourselves enough and against the run of play they eventually took the lead early in the second half.

“A decent move down the left ended with one of their lads cutting inside and curling the ball past Sam Filkins from the edge of the box.

“That immediately gave them something to defend.

“We put them under pressure after that but just could not break them down.

“Everything seemed to be falling for them and it looked like it could be one of those days.

“We then had a great chance on 86 minutes when Tom Richardson nodded down a cross for Ryan Dovell to get in a diving header from close range but somehow their keeper kept it out.

“Time appeared to be running out when Dan Wise managed to keep the ball in and produce the cross of the season for Darren to head in at the far post.

“It really was a fantastic delivery into the box and at the end I was just happy we came away with a point after not playing particularly well.”

The Bees, who travel to Weymouth in the Dorset Senior Cup on Tuesday night (7.45pm), are now six games unbeaten in the Toolstation Western Premier Division but Senior still feels his side can do more.

He added: “There have been three or four games already this season where I feel we have dropped points and Saturday was one of them.

“Hallen were not particularly great and had we played like I know we can I have no doubts we would have won it.

“It was good to keep our decent run going but it was still a bit disappointing to drop two more points.”

Bridport now sit 12th in the table, just two points outside the top 10. They go to Longwell Green Sports in the league on Saturday.
