GOLF: Franks and Harper edge out Gill and Millar
2:32pm Wednesday 30th October 2013 in Sport
THE Thursday competition was a greensome Stableford and 26 two-man teams entered, writes Peter Crowter.
The weather was dry but the wind increased as the morning went on.
No team quite managed to card 40 points but the top two pairs were only one short and had to be separated on countback.
Nick Franks (10) and John Harper (23) edged Roy Gill (12) and Alex Millar (28) into second place, both teams scoring 39 points.
Coming in third were Marcus Beresford (14) and Gil Roberts (22) with 36.
THE 19 men who took to the course for the mixed midweek Stableford were fortunate to have dry weather for their rounds, but they had to cope with a strong wind which may have deterred any ladies from entering.
The winner after countback was Lawrence Turner (20) with 36 points, earning him a one-shot handicap reduction.
In second place was Mike Franklin (8), also with 36, and there was a gap to club vice-captain Phil Dowell (13), who was third with 32.
The weather took its toll this week as the ladies’ Tuesday competition was cancelled due to wind and rain.
The men’s Sunday tournament was called off for health and safety reasons as the strong wind was blowing stones across the course from the cliffs.
