9:00am Thursday 24th October 2013 in Sport
LYME Regis Golf Club’s annual general meeting was very well attended at traditionally the time when the new captains take over – Matt Searle, Lizzie Linnert (ladies) and David Lyon (juniors).
Anne Humphreys also retired as president and will be replaced by past captain John Owen, while outgoing chairman David Cannings made way for Ian Hobson.
There was also no shortage of volunteers for the committee as Jenny Scott, Julian Cox and Bernie Styles were elected from five volunteers.
Grateful thanks were given to Humphreys for all her hard work supporting the club.
Despite the weather there was a large supportive crowd as all three captains had their traditional ‘drive-in’ on Sunday and between them drove a total of over 600 yards.
This distance was guessed by Adrian Morgan who donated his winnings to the captain’s charity – Motor Neurone Disease On the golf course, results over the last week saw some impressive scores.
In the October Stableford, Division One needed countback to decide the top three as all scored 41 points.
First went to Adrian Morgan ahead of Mike Mudford in second and Craig Mcgown in third. Division Two was less close as Peter Locke (41pts) took the honours from Luke De Pasquale (40pts) and Jim Dick (36pts).
In the seniors’ Stableford, John Toates maintained the high scoring as he romped Division One with 42 points from Charlie Lane (39pts) and Richard Jackman (37pts).
Division Two was won by Mike List (36pts) while Tony Johnstone (34) beat Bernie Styles on countback for second place.
New ladies' captain Lizzie Linnert held a fun day with a Texas Scramble, and partnering Jane Dixon and Caroline Baker, won the competition.
