BOWLS: Bridport are foiled

Brian Rumble’s four won 15-13 while Chris Thorne’s quartet triumphed in four of the last five ends to finish 19-17 and Bill Payne’s rink drew 16-16.
Two evenings previously they had gone down to Dorchester 59-39 with only Payne’s four recording an 18-13 success.
Bridport’s ladies finished their County League season in third spot after having been at the foot of the table in the first two months.
They finished their programme in convincing style, taking nine points away at Broadstone with a 64-53 victory. Melody Watts’ four recorded a 22-13 success and Margaret Clapp’s quartet won 18-16 with Sue Hosking’s foursome drawing 24-24.
At home to West Moors, they won on all three rinks 70-52 – Barbara Iver-sen’s foursome triumphing on four of the last five ends to finish 28-19 and Margaret Clapp’s four bagged a 21-16 success.
Sue Hosking’s rink completed the whitewash 21-17.
The club have been very active on the mixed friendly scene.
They entertained City of Wells, winning 111-66 and then took four rinks to Seaton where they recorded a 79-63 victory over the home team.
Next visitors to Priory Lane were Congresbury and Bridport won a close encounter 70-69.
Tiverton West End brought six rinks and ended Bridport’s winning streak by going away 133-111 victors.
A rare excursion into Hampshire saw the West Dorset club visit Fording-bridge where they ach-ieved a 132-72 success and the visit of long-time friendly opponents Ex-mouth Madeira to Priory Lane saw them record a 121-116 success over the home club.
