BEES: Bridport run riot in first home win
12:28pm Sunday 15th September 2013 in Sport
BRIDPORT 4 LONGWELL GREEN 0
BRIDPORT ran riot in the second half at St Mary’s Field to bag a first home victory of the season.
Dan Wise, Chris Clarke, Chris Luke and Tom Richardson all found the target for the Bees in the Toolstation League Premier Division clash in West Dorset.
And the three points will give the side a big boost in confidence going into tomorrow night’s trip to Brislington (7.30pm).
After impressing from the bench in the FA Vase defeat at Plymouth Parkway a week earlier, Ashley Staines and Matt Morley started against Longwell and their pace out wide paid dividends.
The only downside to the Bees’ performance was that despite creating several good chances in the first half they were unable to put any of them away.
However, after Wise gave the home side the lead on 52 minutes with an unerring finish, the floodgates opened and the visitors had no answer to Bridport’s dominance.
Clarke added a second on the hour mark, tucking home a pinpoint pass from Wise, and then Luke got on the end of Richardson’s cross to make it 3-0.
And after a hard afternoon’s work for his team, Richardson netted a deserved fourth courtesy of an emphatic piledriver with five minutes to go.
“We changed our formation and gave the two players that came on at Plymouth a go from the start,” said Bridport assistant-manager Kev Leigh.
“They changed the game for us on that particular occasion and we could well have come away with a draw.
“I felt we needed a bit of pace in the side and we played some great football, especially in the opening half.
“We created four good chances but didn’t take them and that was my only concern at half time.
“But we played with the same tempo in the second half and scored some great goals.
“We always seemed to have an outlet going forward and our movement was far better than it has been.
“It was nice to get our first home win of the season and a bit of a relief too.
“Hopefully we can back it up against Brislington on Tuesday and pick up at least a draw.”
Bridport are now 14th in the table on six points, one behind Saturday’s opponents Longwell.
