BEES: Willand woe for Bridport
WILLAND ROVERS 2
BRIDPORT’S stuttering start to the season continued tonight with a defeat at the Stan Robinson Stadium.
Two second-half strikes were enough to give the home side all three points after a goalless first period.
The Bees have now lost four of their five Toolstation Western League Premier Division matches and, although they rattled the woodwork on a couple of occasions, boss Trevor Senior admitted the better team won.
He said: “We started really well but after the first 15 minutes they bossed the rest of the half.
“We were a bit lucky to go into half-time at 0-0. They hit the woodwork a couple of times and went close with a few more chances, but we defended well to keep them out.
“Dan Wise also hit the bar with a header for us early on and Chris Clarke’s ball to the far post was met on the volley by Jamie Filkins but his effort was cleared off the line.
“We played better in the second half but they scored not long after half-time.
“We dealt with the first threat but they managed to scramble the ball in.
“Dan then hit a ball to the far post, Chris headed it back and Tom Richardson’s side-foot volley hit the post.
“If we had made it 1-1, we would have been right back in it, but they got a second late on and, in the end, deserved to win.
“They were quite direct and went long a lot but they worked hard to support their strikers and won the battle overall.”
Senior’s men take a break from league action this Saturday when they go to Plymouth Parkway in the FA Vase first round qualifying.
And the Bees’ chief added: “We just need something to turn our season around.”
Last night’s result leaves Bridport on three points from five games while for Willand it was their second success of the campaign.
