Rod is best Barr none in open boat
7:20am Saturday 31st August 2013 in Sport
THE two-day Jurassic Open Boat competition was fished in fine conditions on Saturday and Sunday with 33 anglers signing on.
Anglers fished on charter and private boats and headed off to various marks dotted around Lyme Bay, although a strong easterly wind on both days made for a bumpy ride.
The fishing was steady across the two days with 14 different species, including black bream, bass, plaice and pollack, coming to the scales.
The winner on day one was Rod Barr of the West Bay club with a black bream and a cuckoo wrasse totalling 171 per cent.
Day two was won by Chris Harwood, also of West Bay, with a fine dogfish and a cuckoo wrasse totalling 136 per cent.
The overall results were based on a competitor’s best two specimen fish over both days and Barr’s efforts on day one were enough to see him take overall first place and the £200 first prize.
Saturday results 1 Rod Barr 171%, 2 James Barr 149%, 3 James Galbraith 144%.
Sunday results 1 Chris Harwood 136%, 2 Steve Fowles 128%, 3 Robert Stephenson 127%.
Overall results: 1 Rod Barr 171%, 2 James Galbraith 156%, 3 James Barr 149%.
Overall, most species were caught by John Hansford with nine and various other prizes and pools were given out on each day.
West Bay SAC would like to thank everyone who took part for their support and the sponsors who donated prizes.
