West Bay winners at club celebration

WEST Bay Sea Angling Club celebrated another fantastic season at their presentation dinner at Highlands End, Eype.

The event included a three-course meal, a speech from chairman Rod Barr and the presentation of silverware to the club’s best performers over the course of the latest campaign.

Barr thanked all the staff at Highlands End for their fantastic service and also gave a special mention to the club’s new cup custodian, Lynn Mudford, for all her hard work in repairing, cleaning and displaying all the club’s trophies.

He also paid tribute to those members who had sadly pas-sed away, including Steve Mar-ley, Ralph Probert, Les Peters and Frank Daw, and led a round of applause in their memory.

After the main trophies were presented, Barr and president Fred Bowditch then went on to hand out the many other accolades that members fish for throughout the year.

Winners included Mark Wickenden, James Barr, Gerry Reed, Rod Barr, Lea Windsor, Phil Maggs, Fred Bowditch, PJ Wheeler, Ian Draper, Graham Stephenson, Connor Hallett, Keiran Ellison, Frances Kit-chin, Steve Harwood, Norman Stokes, Malcolm Mercer, the late Ralph Probert, Lisa Barr, ‘Miss Grace’ (boat with heaviest average weight per angler), John Coombs and Craig Hor-ton.

Simon Bowditch was also awarded the Clubman Shield while Hilary Smith picked up the President’s Cup.

Fred Bowditch expressed his gratitude to all the committee, chairman Rod Barr and Richard Daw, and also thanked club secretary Roger Gupp.

However, he chose Smith for the award this year for her continued hard work behind the scenes particularly with the youth section.

A raffle was then held and the club would like to thank those who added to the prizes with kind donations.

n Shore Events continue and the Saturday Juniors kick-off on April 6 with the Fred Tolley Memorial Match. Boat matches also start next month with the first fixture on April 23.

The Chesil Championships Open also takes place on April 14.
