COUNTRY KINGS: Winners from the second primary schools cross country race held at Beaminster COUNTRY KINGS: Winners from the second primary schools cross country race held at Beaminster

LODERS pupils Olivia Willmore and Marcus Burt led from the front to win the girls’ and boys’ events respectively in the second of the primary schools cross-country races at Beaminster.

On a flat, fast but very muddy course, Willmore clocked a time of 7.02 minutes to seal back-to-back victories having won the first event at Colfox.

She went to the head of the field from the off and never looked back, finishing 23 seconds ahead of fellow Loders youngster Maddy Herbert. Phoebe Clarke was third in 7.32 minutes.

The Loders team were the overall winners with 12 points as Mrs E took second on 36 and Parrett & Axe third with 74.

Burt decided to go with the same tactics as Willmore in the boys’ race but it was a lot closer than the girls’ with just five seconds separating first and third.

Colfox winner Manny Cox had to settle for the runner-up spot on this occasion with a time of 6.45 minutes while Cole Lowden was right behind him.

Bridport Primary, with 35 points, took team honours ahead of Broadwindsor (36) with Loders in third (37).

Loders and BP showed their strength in depth as their B teams won the same categories as their A teams.
