Patrick’s prize in monthly medal

MIKE Patrick (85-17-68) was the only man who recorded a sub-70 score in the Bridport & West Bay Golf Club's January midweek medal, writes Peter Crowter.

Nineteen members turned out for the competition on a dry, sunny morning with a slight breeze. Jimmy Gbadebo (83-13-70) took the runner-up prize with Mike Franklin (81-10-71) in third after countback.

The men’s Sunday competition was a greensome Stableford. The course was very wet and the first hole was fine for the ducks but no good for golf so the competition took place over 17 holes. Taking first place by a single point was the father and son team of Terry (20) and Ian Kearley (14) with 37 points.

The runner-up team of Graham Blunden (7) and Mike Chivers (10) nudged Roger Galpin (16) and Mike Barter (17) into third place on countback, with both teams carding 36 points. Veterans’ Section THE Thursday competition was the third round of the Winter Shield and 52 players took to the field. Many players took advantage of the conditions and 18 players scored 34 points or more.

The only competitor to score 40 points was Jim Rogers, who claimed the Division One title with Tim Bassett (39) taking the runners-up spot.

Top of the leaderboard in Division Two was dominated by Daves, who took the top three places with Dave Cole coming out on top with 37 points.

Ladies’ Section by Rosemary Shepherd

The New Year for the ladies got under way with a Wedgewood competition played over nine holes, where only a wedge, a wood and a putter were allowed.

Having chosen which clubs to put in one’s bag, little time was wasted in deliberation out on the course.

The restrictions seemed to suit some players more than others – the winners coming in with very creditable scores.

The first three ladies each received a piece of porcelain.

Congratulations go to winner Lyn Hargrave, with 16 points on countback from Marilyn Wilson. In third place was Diane Harris with 15 points
