BRIDPORT Runners have had a very successful season and are looking forward to a challenging 2013.

Last year, for the first time in a while, the club competed in the Wessex Cross Country League in all adult categories and won titles in two of them.

The Wessex Cross Country League is a four-race series held across Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire and is organised by local running clubs.

Bridport Runners not only claimed first and second in the individual senior men’s section thanks to Ben Wilshaw and Sam Rowland-Sims respectively but Vicki Ackerman also secured the senior women’s title.

Furthermore, Norman Wiggins also managed to get a second place in the individual masters category for over-60s, which also helped the club come third in the senior men’s team event and the men’s masters team event.

In 2013, Bridport Runners’ members will again compete in a number of local and national races from 10k races to the London Marathon.

The club will also host its own race along the Jurassic Coastline together with professional race organiser BustinSkin.

The event is scheduled to be held on July 14 and will offer different distances from a fun and family run (1 mile) to a 5k and a 10k race.

Commenting on recent results, club secretary Brian Shelley said: “Our success in the Wes- sex Cross Country League reflects the growing popularity of running in the Bridport area and a continued increased membership of Bridport Runners.”

The club meets at West Bay on Sundays at 9am and on Wednesday evenings at the Leisure Centre at 5.30pm.

Shelly continued: “As well as this, groups often meet up spontaneously for a variety of runs in the beautiful surroundings of Bridport.

“All of this means we are now able to cater for all levels of runners, from experienced to beginners.”
