Strong Gale blows in at Bridport
MATT Gale blew in to win the men’s Sunday January medal.
The morning players had the slightly better weather being dry if overcast but conditions got damper in the afternoon.
Leading nett scores over all three divisions were very close with only two strokes difference between the top nine places.
The two top nett scores were carded by Gale (Division One) and Grant Gerard (Division Three), both with 69. Karl McGrady topped Division Two with 70.
Division One: 1 Matt Gale (80-11-69), 2 (acb) Phil Winton (80-10-70), 3 Dave Woodruffe (75-5-70).
Division Two: 1 Karl McGrady (84-14-70), 2 (acb) Mike McGrady (86-15-71), 3 Chris Adams (88-17-71).
Division Three: 1 Grant Gerrard (95-26-69), 2 Chris Wren (90-20-70), 3 Bob Dewland (93-22-71).
FIFTY-FOUR veterans were sufficiently recovered from their New Year celebrations to take part in a Stableford competition.
Conditions were fairly benign and there was some steady scoring with no one running away with an outlandish points total.
Jeff Webster was the leader in Division Two by two clear points with a score of 36. Runner-up in Division One was Nick Franks with a score of 37 but, beating him on countback, was the overall winner on the day, Angus Nicoll, also with 37 points.
Division One: 1 (acb) Angus Nicoll (13) 37 points, 2 Nick Franks (12) 37, 3 (acb) Dave Boggis (19) 36, 4 (acb) Marcus Beresford (16) 36.
Division Two: 1 Jeff Webster (27) 36, 2 Bob Jukes (25) 34, 3 Dave Northover (22) 33, 4 (acb) Keith Delves (25) 32. There were five twos.
