RIGHT ROYAL EFFORTS: Lynne and Alan Vian taking part in the royal wedding celebrations at Lyme Regis Football Club
A HUSBAND and wife team have been formally thanked for their ‘major contribution’ to Lyme’s summer events.
Alan and Lynne Vian were invited to attend last week’s full town council meeting so Mayor Sally Holman could pay tribute to them.
The couple are volunteers for Regatta and Carnival Week, Lifeboat Week and the Siege of Lyme Thanksgiving Day, plus were instrumental in the Jubilee celebrations and Mr Vian is also town crier.
Coun Holman said: “On behalf of the council I would like to thank Alan for his major contribution – apart from his official role as town crier – to all the organisations and running all the major events that have happened this summer during a very packed programme. You had a team of over 100 volunteers for the Olympic torch day and you did that when you were suffering with a broken ankle.”
The mayor also thanked Mrs Vian for her supporting role and all she does for Lyme’s community events.
They were presented with a Jubilee Lyme booklet.
In response, Mr Vian said: “There are lots of people in Lyme Regis that do huge amounts of things – we are just part of it.
“We have had an amazing summer – this is only a small reflection of all the fantastic things that have happened.”
Mr Vian praised the Mayor and said what a ‘credit’ she was to the town.
“You are actively supporting what we do and giving dignity to the events we do and thank you for that,” he said.
“That goes for the councillors too.”
He also paid tribute to the hard work of the members of staff at the council.
