BUSINESSES have struck gold in the Taste of the West hospitality and retail awards.

The White House in Charmouth scooped two golds in this year’s Taste of the West (Flavour in Hospitality) Awards 2012. The Hedgehog Corner B&B also claimed a gold, the Alexandra Hotel and Restaurant in Lyme Regis claimed silver in the restaurant section.

The Town Mill Cheesemongers won gold in the retail speciality category.

The White House at Charmouth claimed gold in the B&B and restaurant categories.

Chef and co-owner Ian Simpson, who has run the business with wife since 2001, said: “We won gold for Dorset restaurants in the 2011 awards. To not only repeat that in 2012, but add to it with the B&B award as well, is just fantastic.

“There is a lot of superb south west produce available for chefs. Winning these awards gives our customers confidence that we take local sourcing of quality produce very seriously.”

Proprietors Joy Raymond and Tara Dare of the Hedgehog B&B were delighted to get a gold in their first year of entry.

Joy said: “We are delighted to have succeeded in getting a gold in our first attempt in the Taste of the West Awards this year.

“We owe it all to our fantastic local producers who supply our B&B.

“Indeed many of them being past and present Taste of the West winners too.”
