Young writers told to dig deep
11:00am Saturday 22nd September 2012 in Lyme Regis
YOUNG writers are being asked to dig deep into their imaginations and enter a competition to showcase their literary skills.
There are four different age categories to enter for the Honiton and District 2012 Young Writers’ Competition and each entrant will need to pen an original story of up to 750 words on any subject.
John Carter one of the competition organisers said 63 three junior schools and nine senior schools had been asked to get involved but any resident East Devon boy or girl can enter.
He said: “Last year’s competition was again a great success and we had some wonderful work from many young authors, so we know there is real talent out there.”
Entries will be judged by popular children’s writer TM Alexander, author of the Tribe series of books.
Six winners will be chosen from the two junior age groups aged five to eight and nine to 11 and six from the two senior age groups 11 to 15 and 16 to 18.
Each will receive a signed framed certificate, a gift token and an author’s signed book.
Entries should be sent with a title and separate sheet with name, age, telephone number and address, with consent from parent or teacher, to John Carter, Smokey House, Yarcombe, Honiton, Devon EX14 9AD.
