Lyme Regis skatepark project on a roll

A RANGE of fundraising events will be rolling into town for Lyme Regis Skatepark Week.

There will be a number of fundraisers during the final week of September to collect money for the community project to build a skateboard park in Charmouth Road car park. The project has been ongoing for the past 40 years, led by local councillors and residents.

Councillor Lucy Campbell, one of the organisers of the Skatepark Week, said the project is progressing well.

She said: “Those involved in the project have been busy working behind the scenes over the summer. The skatepark consultation results and design brief were sent to a number of designers who had expressed an interest to design and build the skatepark at some point over the years.

“They were asked to submit a design to us with a deadline of the end of August and six companies have done so.”

The six designs will be taken to a consultation evening where the designers will give presentations on their designs and the budding skaters will be able to choose their favourite. The consultation will take place on Friday, September 28, as part of Lyme Regis Skatepark Week and is aimed at those who are interested in using the skatepark to get involved. A panel of councillors and skaters will choose one design, which will be taken to the town council for planning permission and a consultation with Charmouth Road residents.

The skatepark working group will also meet soon to plan a funding strategy for the project.

  • Lyme Regis Skatepark Week will take place from September 23 to 30 and a cheese club fundraiser will be held at the Nags Head on September 23.
