Candles will light up Cobb
10:00am Saturday 25th August 2012 in Lyme Regis By Anne Bell
ALIGHT: A spectacular sight
Lyme Regis will be ablaze with light at the weekend as the Candles on the Cobb ceremony takes place.
On Sunday evening some 5,000 candles will be lit along the Cobb harbour providing a spectacular sight and raising thousands of pounds for local and national charities.
Uniquely numbered candle certificates can be bought for £2.50 with a numbered map of the Cobb Harbour, which will identify where the tea-light candle will be placed and lit by volunteer lighting teams.
Following the main event there will be a finale firework display to conclude the evening.
Proceeds from the event will be split between Help for Heroes and Lyme Regis youth organisations.
The weekend begins at 8pm on Friday, August 24 with free live music at the Marine Parade Shelters by Delta Tango 7.
On Saturday, August 25 at 8.30pm a grand torchlight procession will wend its way through the town to the Cobb Harbour and torches will be available to buy from 7.30pm at the entrance to the Langmoor Gardens in Broad Street.
Live music events follow with Reactor at the Marine Parade Shelters at 9pm or the Bruised Brothers in the Lyme Regis Power Boat Club. Finally on Sunday at 7pm the Candles on the Cobb finale takes place with the fireworks from around 9.30pm.
Organisers are urging visitors and locals to buy a candle certificate to remember someone special to them and to take part in the event.
Candle certificates can be bought online at candlesonthe cobb.org or in various outlets within Lyme Regis with t-shirts and souvenir programmes available at selling stations on the Lyme Regis Marine Parade.
Saturday music event tickets are £10 from 07768 725959.
