Lyme Regis Taekwondo instructor at Games

TAEKWONDO instructor Sharon Ward from Lyme had her faith in the Olympics restored on a trip to London.

Sharon was nominated to run in the torch relay but missed out. She also thought she had been picked as a first responder for the games in London only to find organisers had oversubscribed.

But she did manage to gain tickets to see her own sport.

Sharon, who is a 3rd dan instructor at Lyme Regis Taekwondo Club, soaked up the atmosphere in the Olympic Park before heading into the ExCel arena.

She watched the -80kg men and -68kg women quarter and semi finals – including British hopeful Sarah Stevenson.

Sharon said: “As a former fighter I know how much the crowd can inspire you.

“Match after match we sat there watching the best fighters perform.

“Unfortunately the two British athletes on that day lost in the early rounds. But that didn’t dampen my spirit.”
