Lyme Regis: Regatta and Carnival week set to burst onto the scene

A HOST of entertainment is lined up when the Regatta and Carnival Week bursts into life in Lyme Regis .
The annual extravaganza starts on Saturday, August 4 and runs until Sunday, August 12.
Highlights include the Walk of Light Torchlight Procession on Thursday, August 9 and the Carnival Parade on Saturday, August 11 followed by fireworks.
The Carnival Games are on Saturday 4 and will include such events as Tossing the Caper, The Hi Jump and the Compact Disc Throw.
Teresa Evemy, who is chairman of the Regatta and Carnival Committee, said: “There is so much for families to do together this week in Lyme Regis.
“We are looking forward to seeing the many families who come back year by year to Lyme as well as making new friends.
“Every penny we raise will go to local good causes in Lyme Regis”
Town crier Alan Vian, who is also on the organising committee, added: “We are looking forward to a very exciting week.
“There’s a great programme for all of the family.
“We’ve got the Carnival Games and all the usual things which people love.
“We are looking forward to seeing lots of old friends and new ones.”
There are over 80 events. They include a Family Dog Show, Beach Sports, Sandcastle and Pavement Art Competitions and the Teddy Bears’ Picnic.
The programme features music on the seafront every night including the Taiko Drummers on Saturday, August 4, and Lyme Regis Town Band on Tuesday and Thursday.
A full colour souvenir programme is now on sale in many shops in town and in the Jubilee Pavilion priced at £1.
