Lyme Regis: Woodroffe School students meet birds of prey

Martin Ballam from Xtreme Falconry Ltd visited Year 11 students at The Woodroffe School
THE eagle has landed – birds of prey swooped on the Woodroffe School for a special visit.
Martin Ballam, from Xtreme Falconry Ltd, showed Year 11 students a range of birds when he called in to the school.
They included a barn owl, Cromarty the eagle owl, a peregrine falcon, a kestrel and Winston the American harris hawk.
As the grand finale, he also showed them Brianna the white tailed sea eagle.
Martin said: “Having visited hundreds of schools over the past few years, it was great to be at Woodroffe for the first time. “The students were brilliant and the feedback has been outstanding.”
Not only were teachers and students enthralled by the amazing evolution and adaptation of these creatures, they also learnt about the different ways they can be successfully trained. With the opportunity to ask lots of questions and get fully involved, it was a new experience for students at Woodroffe. Martin was available at lunchtime to run a ‘meet and greet’ session for all year groups, with some of the smaller members of the team, including a ferruginous pygmy owl.
