Charmouth: Paralympic basketball champ Jonathan Hall visits school
10:30am Friday 4th May 2012 in Lyme Regis
Pupils from the school gather around paralympian Jonathan Hall
PARALYMPIAN wheelchair basketball champ Jonathan Hall interrupted his busy training schedule to pay a visit to Charmouth Primary School.
The event was organised by the school through Athletes Direct, a non-profit organisation that facilitates school visits by elite athletes.
Jonathan, who won a gold medal with the GB team last September at The European Championships in Israel and a bronze medal at the Beijing Paralympics in 2008, is hoping to represent his country again in London this summer.
The day started with a presentation to the whole school at assembly, in which Jonathan discussed his disability as well as his sporting achievements.
He was then recorded on video, taking questions from four pupils in year two as part of their Learning Journey project on the Olympics, before joining in with a relaxed session in the playground answering more questions and demonstrating basketball skills.
Having tucked into a school lunch with the pupils, Jonathan spent time with each year group, answering a variety of questions and encouraging the children to try out one of his old sports wheelchairs and signing a few autographs.
