County: Apply to host Jubilee street parties
12:00pm Thursday 19th April 2012 in Lyme Regis
COMMUNITIES planning Diamond Jubilee parties are being urged to submit their applications for street closures by April 20.
The 60th anniversary of the Queen’s coronation will be marked with an extended Bank Holiday weekend from June 2 – 5.
By law, anyone planning a party that requires a road to be closed needs to tell Dorset County Council’s highways team about it The council has simplified its road closure application form and the standard minimum notice period of three months for a road closure has been reduced to six weeks.
Applications will be processed for free.
The form includes guidance on how to register an event, important safety considerations, advice about public liability insurance and how to signpost a road closure or diversion route.
Coun Peter Finney, who is the cabinet member for highways, said: “We are keen to encourage as many people as we can to celebrate this special event.
“But we do need to know the numbers as soon as possible so that we know what we’re dealing with.
“We want to make sure all street parties happen without a hitch, so people can celebrate the Jubilee with as little hassle as possible.”
Application forms can be downloaded from www.dorsetforyou.com/streetparty or obtained by calling 01305 221000.
