VOLUNTEERS are needed to act as stewards and stewardess on a flight back in time on the Jurassic Coast.
They are wanted for the Jurassic Airlines simulator which will be in Lyme Regis and Weymouth for the Olympics this summer.
It will take passengers on a virtual tour of the world heritage site 185 million years ago to fly with pterodactyls, cruise along the Jurassic Coastline and plunge into the waters of seas to encounter ichthyosaurs and pliosaurs.
The 15-minute journey will also take passengers to see other world heritage sites such as the Great Barrier Reef and the Grand Canyon.
Spokesman Jill Newton urged people to become involved in the groundbreaking project.
“It is quite historic and it is having its launch in Lyme Regis.
“Jurassic Airlines will be educational but also very fun and very cleverly done.
“It will be a highly memorable and never to be forgotten experience. This is a chance for people to be part of it.”
Full training will be given to stewards and stewardesses.
They will welcome passengers and usher them through scanners, which will search for ‘time pollutants,’ before seating them in the departure lounge.
They will also check boarding passes, do onboard safety checks and generally look after passengers during each flight.
The flight simulator is due to be at the Marine Parade shelters in Lyme Regis on May 4 to 10 although organisers are locked in talks with the town council about whether they will have to pay to for a pitch.
It will then be on the Pavilion Forecourt in Weymouth from July 26 to September 9 as part of the Olympics festivities.
The flight simulator is part of the Earth Festival being held on the Jurassic Coast this summer.
There will be more than 30 events from May to September, including children’s cinema, music, walks and art exhibitions.
Other attractions lined up include a Fossil Festival in Lyme Regis and Charmouth and an animated 39ft Pliosaur.
More than 250,000 people are expected to pour into the area for the festival.
The Earth Festival and the Fossil Festival have UNESCO patronage.
