Lyme Regis: Invitation to get involved with ArtsFest

LYME Regi’s tenth ArtsFest will round off the town’s celebration of the Cultural Olympiad’s Earth Festival starting in May and there’s an open invitation to get involved.

ArtsFest director Sally Holman is putting together the final programme for the event which aims to bring the arts and sciences together.

Mayor Sally Holman says there is space for more workshops and events aimed at engaging members of the public in arts experiences.

She said: “You do not have to have taken part in previous ArtsFests, nor be one of our core participating visual artists, to join in.

“We are very much a focus for arts activity, visual and performance, and this is our tenth anniversary.

“Smaller workshops provide taster sessions and larger events raise the profile of dance, drama, music and literature in our area.

“We do have to ask that all offers come as self-funded, but we do the advertising without charge and suggest locations.

“Our sought-after brochures cover the wider region and we have a lively website. There are also still a few tables available, at modest cost, for the ArtsFest art and craft market at the marine Parade Shelters on September 8 and 9.”

There is also the chance to take part in a project being worked on by creative directors Karol Kulik and Christine Allison who are doing a collaborative project with Lyme Regis museum, called ‘re:collection’ involving artistic responses to inspiring exhibits.

If you would like to take part, find out more from Karol at karol@karolkulik.com and send her a proposal.

Coun Holman added: “We are looking to make ArtsFest 2012 a memorable and enjoyable one, the culmination of an exciting summer in Lyme.

“Do come and join us, we are a very friendly organisation which has grown from small beginnings to become a major town festival and now has an all-year programme as well.” Coun Holman has also produced a special leaflet outlining all the major festivals and events in the town in what she says promises to be one of the busiest ever in the town.
